1. You asked if we had any 'advice' for Dr Nicholson on his meeting with Dr Wright.

2. I am afraid we have nothing useful on our files on science or technology matters. I can only suggest that you (or Dr Nicholson) ask the Department of Education and Science and/or the Department of Industry if they have anything to contri- bute. I should have thought two senior Science Advisers would have plenty to talk about, particularly as they already know each other well.

3. You may, however, like to pass the attached background brief on Hong Kong to Dr Nicholson in case he is not familiar with Hong Kong.

4. If you hear that Dr Wright is coming before mid-May, perhaps you would let me know. It may be useful for Sir Edward Youde, the Hong Kong Governor-designate, to talk to him.
