WHO's Regional Director for the Western Pacific Region visited Hong Kong last month. course of his conversation with the Governor, he observed that our Medical and, Health Department had ceased to attend annual meetings of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific Region for some years, and asked us to consider resuming attendance for future meetings.

NOTED
Indeed representatives from our Medical and Health Department attended annual meetings of the Regional Committee up to 1973 and also assumed the role of Chief Representative of the UK Delegation. But for reasons which cannot now be traced from our files, we ceased to attend thereafter. Instead subsequent meetings were attended by the UK Delegation consisting usually of a Medical Adviser from the FCO.
We now believe that Hong Kong's attendance at future annual meetings of the Regional Committee will be useful, particularly as the main purpose of these meetings is to discuss and approve WHO's proposed programme of activities including, for example, train- ing courses, travelling fellowships and consultantships in the medical and health fields, and technical co-, operation.
The purpose of this letter is to indicate our revived interest towards attendance and, if the FCO sees no objection, to request appropriate arrange- ments to be made for the Hong Kong Government to be represented at future annual meetings of WHO's Regional Committee for the Western Pacific Region, either on our own or attending as past of the UK Delegation.
