PORTUGUESE ACCESSION TO THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY FREE MOVEMENT

Please see Mr March's letter of 17 March at folio (7). Given that Chinese Macanese cannot now acquire Portuguese Nationality, there is little cause for concern.

We may, however, well have to accept that those who could have a claim to a Portuguese passport will be treated like Gibraltar.

2. I suggest that this file be brought up every six months to check whether there has been any movement on Portuguese accession. I checked last week and there has been none recently.
