Councils and Administration Branch Progress Report
(1st August 1982 - 31st October 1982)--
Purpose
(a) To establish and review
policy affecting government accommodation
(b) To forecast requirements
for office and quarters accommodation and to ensure that these are efficiently and economically met.
(c) To plan the construction
or acquisition of offices and quarters in order to reduce to a minimum Government's dependence upon leasing.
Progress Made and Present Position
(a) Accommodation Policy Group met on 16th
September to consider proposals for long- term accommodation of departmental head- quarters offices and for improved gas safety standards in lower-grade quarters.
(b) Work on priority phases of Property Record
now complete. Requirement for additional phases and computerisation to be reviewed at later date.
Offices
(a) Leasing Programme 1982/83
Implementation of Programme proceeding. Rent levels have softened over quarter.
(b) Construction

26 projects, to provide over 500,000m of office space over the next five years, included in PWP. Work has commenced on 15 projects.
(c) Office standards
Review of office layouts, standards of finish and furnishing under review.
