Trial
Purpose
To ensure that transitees do not remain in Hong Kong without official permission.
To conduct clinical trials on buprenorphine, a possible non-addictive substitute for methadone.

Progress Made and Present Position
The
New transit arrangements for PRC passport holders have been notified to the PRC. essential points of the new arrangements
are :
a) Transitees will be given 7 days stay.
on arrival.
b) Where justified further extension of
stay will be granted.
c) Transitees who overstay will be
repatriated to China.
These arrangements will come into force on 15th August 1982.
A special meeting was held with Prof. G. Choa (Chairman of Supervisory Committee on the Trial) to clarify a number of technical points that had recently come to light. Request for funds already submitted to F.B.
Next Quarter's Target
To implement the new arrangements and repatriate transitee 'overstayers' to China.
To finalise outstanding techincal details of submit the finalised
protocol to the Supervisory Committee for endorsement
To obtain Finance
Committee's approval of funds.
