7. Modernization of the KCR

Purpose
To electrify the KCR in conjunction with a programme of capital works to improve the carrying capacity of the railway.
Progress Made & Present Position
(g) Proposals for a new Shenzhen
Station were made known to Hong Kong Government during a joint meeting in July. The proposal will be considered by the Hong Kong/China Economic Committee on 10th August.
(h) Proposals are being developed on
ferry terminal facilities at la Liu Shui to link up with resort
1924 development in Mirs Bay.

(a) The first phase of electrification
is completed. The new inner Suburban Service (from Kowloon to Sha Tin) commenced on 6:1lay 1982; daily patronage for the month of June was about 140,000.

(b) Completion of electrification to
Tai Po market is scheduled for early 1983 and through Lo T after mid-1983.
(c) FC approved the proposal to construct
a temporary station at Tai Wai by 1983 to cater for the growing population; the permanent station will progress according to the works programme and be completed in 1985.

authority's proposals on Station re- development at Lo u.

Work out details of temporary and
permanent facilities and financial arrangements.
