Progress made and present position

The contents of the 1982 Review has in jbeen drawn up.

To commence a local speech therapy training

course.

To clarify the role of sheltered workshops in the rehabilitation process; to re-examine subvention policy and incentive payments in the light of such clarifications.

To obtain comprehensive information on the transport needs of disabled people.

The query raised by the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee that speech teachers in schools might need a lower level of training than clinical speech therapists has been answered. The Committee has been requested to indicate the ear-marked grant needed for the remainder of the 1981/84 triennium in order to commence the 4m year first level degree course at the University of Hong Kong.

To monitor progress.

The Working Party has held two meetings To monitor progress. and completed visits of 12 sheltered workshops in Hong Kong. A detailed survey of all sheltered workshops in Hong Kong has been completed and the findings will be circulated to members of the Working Party before its next meeting in February.

Following a meeting with the Census and Statistics Department on 12 January 1982, comments are being sought from the Government departments concerned on the proposed aims, scope and questions to be included in the survey questionnaire. The exercise is being co-ordinated in the Social Services Branch.

To establish the aims, scope and resource require- ments for the survey.
