Purpose

To study the structure, opération and locational require- ments of the container industry in Hong Kong so as to provide a basis for Government to formulate a strategy for the future provision and allocation of land to container related users.

To provide sufficient land in accordance with the Memoranda of Agreement for construction of premanent bus depots and use as temporary parking areas for buses.

Progress Made & Present Position

was

A paper, based largely on the consultants recommendations, submitted to and approved by ExCo on 1.12.81. The Container Terminal Operators have been asked to submit their joint pro- posals for reclamation of Kwai Chung Creek by 31.1.82.

The review of KMB's depot requirements has been completed and a report finalized. The Working Group to consider CMB's requirements had its first meeting in November 1981.

Next Quarter Targets

Consider the

Operators' proposals and negotiate an agreement on imple- mentation. Imple-

mentation of the Consultants' recommendations for short term improve- ments and provision of back-up land will take place in June/ July 1982.

Participate in review on CMB.
