Christian Adams is to take over from Derek March as Senior Trade Commissioner in Hong Kong in early August. He is calling on Mr Clift at 3.00 pm on 7 July. The following are subjects which Mr Clift may wish to raise:

Hong Kong/UK Relations in general: Nationality Bill, Students' Fees and the Overseas Students Trust's Report, Multi-Fibre Arrangement, Future of Hong Kong;

The Prime Minister's Visit;
Information Work: Mr March has for some time felt that not enough is done to project a good image of the UK in Hong Kong, particularly on issues where the UK and Hong Kong differ, such as the MFA. Mr Masefield's appointment in Information Division should help to counter the problem.

BBC Relay Station : Mr Adams will be calling on Information Department but Mr Clift may nonetheless wish to raise the subject;
2. Mr Adams saw Mr Thomson (FED) on 29 June. He will see Mr Donald immediately after Mr Clift on 7 July and Mr Feast (TRED) and Mr Kinchen (ECD(E)) on 9 July. He is likely also to be calling on Mr Martin (ESSD). The DOT are arranging appoint- ments with Information Department, COD and PUSD. Mr Clift may like to suggest that Mr Adams be briefed by Consular Department (as Consul for Macao), Security Department (on (h) above) and Training Department (on Chinese language students in Hong Kong).
