Strasbourg
1 December 1980
Sir,
I have the honour to refer to Mr Boothby's letter dated the 14th of January 1966 which declared the recognition by the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, in respect of the United Kingdom only, of the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights, and to Mr Foster's letter dated the 9th of January 1976 which prolonged, until the 13th of January 1981, the period of such recognition.
On instructions from Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, I now have the honour to inform you that the Government of the United Kingdom hereby renew for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland the declaration made in Mr Boothby's letter of the 14th of January 1966 referred to above, further prolonging the said period for a further five years, to end on the 13th of January 1986. Except in relation to the date of expiry of this period, the terms of the said declaration shall remain unaffected.
I avail myself of this opportunity to renew to you, Sir, the assurance of my highest consideration
