I refer to your letters of 16 July and 19 July concerning the extension of the above Act to Hong Kong and Gibraltar respectively.

I copied the correspondence about extension of the Act to Hong Kong to our Solicitors for their comments on the points raised by the Hong Kong Government about the Order in Council extending the 1964 Act to Hong Kong. Our Solicitors have now obtained copies of the correspondence between the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel and the FCO Solicitors discussing this point, and are now satisfied that the 1964 Act, as extended to Hong Kong by Order in Council, remains in force there until an Order in Council is made under Section 8(8) of the 1980 Act extending that Act, and hence the repeal of the 1964 Act to Hong Kong.

Our Solicitors are content with the proposal concerning the extension of the Protection of Trading Interests Act to Gibraltar.
