PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION: BRITISH POSSESSIONS AND DEPENDENCIES

Please see the attached PQ to which the Parliamentary Unit require an answer by noon on Wednesday 2 June 1982.

Please see folios 1 and 8. Subject to your comments I propose in your name via Mr Ure and PS/Mr Onslow, as in paragraph 4 of folio 8 and the background note attached thereto.

3. Please also see folios 9 in which Mr Watts (Deputy Legal Adviser) raised points on 'Falkland Island(s) Dependencies' and 'BIOT'. Mr Watts is away this week and Mr Burrows does not return until tomorrow morning, too late for our deadline. EAD (folio 10) confirm that the BIOT should be included. I have spoken with Mr Chase and Mr Duggin (SAMD) who confirm that there should be the following entries:

'Falkland Islands'

'Falkland Island Dependencies'

I agree with Mr Watts that 'states' should be used in the reply instead of 'nations'.

4. I shall, of course, double check with Mr Burrows the moment he returns to the office.
