PRIVATE MEMBERS' MOTIONS: MONDAY 5 JULY
know.

1. Today's Order Paper records that Sir Victor Goodhew (Con, St Albans) has won third place in the ballot for Private Members' Motions on Monday 5 July and has put down the following motion:
2.
UNITED KINGDOM DEPENDENT TERRITORIES
To call attention to the future of United Kingdom dependent territories; and to move a Resolution.
Debate on Private Members! Motions on 5 July will begin at 3.30 pm (unless there are any PNQs, Statements etc) and will end promptly at 7 pm. It is virtually certain that Sir Victor's motion will not be reached. This, and the other two motions Mr George Gardiner on British Rail and Mr Michael Hamilton
(subject not yet declared) - will be considered by Legislation Committee on Wednesday 30 June. Much will depend on the Government's decision on the tactics to be adopted in handling the first two motions, but it can be confidently forecast that debate on these will be sustained until 7 pm; which means that Sir Victor's will automatically fall.
3. Nonetheless, HKGD, WIAD and ODA will need to prepare briefs on Sir Victor's motion for the FCO Minister (Mr Hurd) attending the Legislation Committee meeting.
