NOTES FOR SUPPLEMENTARIES

1. WHAT MATTERS WERE DISCUSSED?

There were many, from general questions of future development

to the new launch to replace a longboat.

WHEN WILL THE LONGBOAT BE REPLACED?

Tenders for the construction of a new launch closed on

16 July. Quotations and recommendations will be telegraphed

to the Island Council for their final decision.

3.

IS THE JETTY BEING REPAIRED?

Major Jasonsmith, a New Zealand Army Officer is now on

the Island and has, on our behalf, organised repairs to the

jetty. He will submit a full report when he returns to

New Zealand.

4. DID HE DO ANY OTHER WORK WHILE ON THE ISLAND?

He was asked, if he had time, to look at any other

technical problems the islanders may have.

WHY A NEW ZEALAND OFFICER?

No British Officer with the required expertise was

available at the time because of other events. New Zealand

Government kindly agreed to make Major Jasonsmith available.
