1. Advance of Salary
The Hong Kong Government Office confirm that an advance of salary (usually half a month) can be paid to Sir Edward to cover, inter alia, purchase of a car. He merely has to ask for it.

This may assist Sir Edward in deciding whether or not to elect for GPS.
3. Sir Edward will be covered by the Hong Kong Government medical scheme for all medical and dental treatment.
4. I have been unable to determine what those 'other semi- official items' that Sir M MacLehose has been expected to pay from his own pocket are.
5. Sir Edward is correct in stating that there is no provision in GPS for payment to widows. ODA confirm that there is no place for this to be included. If Sir Edward wishes to make a case we would certainly support it.
