1. You may have heard from Derek March that we are pro- posing to carry out an inspection of DS establishments in Hong Kong from 1 - 13 February next year. The inspection team will be led by Mark Chapman, supported by Michael Cox as Assistant Inspector.

2. The Inspectors will have no mandate to inspect officers seconded to the Hong Kong Government, but will be ready to deal with their allowances at the same time as they deal with the allowances of UK-based staff at the Trade Commission. this end they will need completed personal budget forms and will probably also wish to see the officers. I hope that you will see no objection to this. I have asked Derek March to arrange for them to receive copies of the appropriate forms.
3. If, of course, any seconded officer has a personal pro- blem which he wishes to discuss with the Inspectors, the latter will be quite prepared to listen to him/her.
4.
I realise that of course this letter will not apply to you personally but to Robin McLaren, and that he is taking up the POLAD appointment in Grade 3. But I do not think it affects the principle and I am arranging for frais-type forms to be sent to Derek March along with all the others.
