THE MACLENNAN INQUIRYCHYED IN REGISTRY NO. 51
TAY
1. Everybody in Hong Kong seems to be throughly disgusted with the MacLennan inquiry and particularly the time it sctaking. I had a brief discussion with the Assistanty counsel to the Commission, Tony Neoh who told me that it is unlikely that the Commission's report would reach the Governor before the middle of August.
2. The local Chinese population continues to be thoroughly uninterested in the proceedings. There is, however, growing concern at the amount of money that Mr Beverage and the other counsel involved in the inquiry are making out of it.
3.
Denis Bray told me that the worst part of the inquiry, from the Hong Kong Govern- ment's point of view, is likely to be reached in the next few weeks.
