1. I was glad to see copies of telegrams about this subject ending with Hong Kong telegram no 468 of 2 May, because, as you were aware, there could be important manpower implications if the Chinese supplied extra accommodation for our Embassy in Peking and if it was decided that we should issue transit visas in Peking rather than at Lo Wu which I assume is on the border between Hong Kong and China. As you realise and as M&VD know only too well, we would be faced with the greatest difficulty in finding additional staff for an expanding Visa Section in Peking. I would, therefore, be grateful if you could consult us at each stage as this saga develops.

2. I have now seen the helffur (to us!) lime.
