10. Whilst travelling through Zhongshan District (no details), the group had gone ashore to cook a meal and been intercepted by a group of six militiamen, one of whom was armed with a rifle. They counted the number of persons in the group and asked their destination. Upon being told Macau, they instructed the group to carry on. Source believes the militia recognised the group as Vietnamese Chinese from their accent, which is very different to that of the local Chinese.

Upon reaching Macau, the group identified themselves to the authorities and asked to stay. This was refused and they were placed on a Vietnamese boat transitting to Hong Kong, arriving the same day, 10th April 1981, after a stay of 10 days in Macau.
