Vietnamese Refugees Ex-China - L/M 1278

On 10th April 1981 a 13 h.p. wooden fishing boat ("tuyen ghe" type) sized 12 by 3 metres: registration number DN 0210 NTDC KVIII entered Hong Kong with a mixed group of 29 ethnic Vietnamese and 14 ethnic Chinese passengers. The Vietnamese were refugees from Da Nang in Central Vietnam, and the others were "ex-China" cases, Vietnamese Chinese from two Overseas Chinese Farms in China. This report concerns the latter contingent.

Thirteen of the Vietnamese Chinese had originated from Dawang (1129/ 2489) Overseas Chinese Farm in Sihui County, Guangdong Province, and one passenger came from Zhujiang (3796/3068) Overseas Chinese Farm, Panyu County, in Guangdong Province.

They had all left Mafang (1129/3055), Sanshui County, Guangdong Province, aboard a rowing boat on 21st March 1981 and reached Macau on 28th March. On 10th April the Macau authorities placed them on a passing Vietnamese refugee boat, which delivered them to Hong Kong the same day.
