(b) As it was common knowledge that boats could be obtained at
Mafang, he went there and arranged to buy a rowing boat sized 5.5. by 1.2 m from a local fisherman (no details) for RMB 630, without the services of a broker.
(c) On 30th April 1981 Source Four led the group, 13 including
himself, to Mafang. The boat owner having been paid, the group boarded the rowing boat and headed for Macau, confident of admission.
(a) Twice en route they were ordered to pull in to militia posts for checking, at the Xinhui (2450/3068) area and at Kuangshan (4349/ 1472), Doumen (2435/7024) County. They were allowed to proceed when it was found they were Vietnamese Chinese leaving their Farms.
(e) Outside Macau the group hired a motorised Chinese fishing boat
to give a tow of one or two hours for RMB 15.
(f) They reached Macau on 7th May, were placed by the authorities onto
a larger vessel, and reached Hong Kong the following day.
