Commons Action on the Lords Amendments

Subject to anything that happens on Third Reading in the Lords there are only two amendments in the Bill as a whole which the Home Office think may be seriously controversial in the Commons. These

are

-

a.

the Gibraltar amendment; and

b. the Opposition amendment to clause 44 on appeals referred

to in para 1(c) above.

The latter is defective in wording and so will need to be amended even if it is not overthrown, which is the Home Office's present plan. Either way the Home Office do not expect major difficulty with this amendment. It could be, therefore, on present form, that the Gibraltar amendment will be the only major area of challenge in the Commons to the Lords amendments.
