Nor can it be assumed that all the larger territories would necessarily want a separate citizenship. They value their connection with this country and they want a status which adequately reflects this connection. Many dependencies such as Hong Kong would have puferred to keep citizenship of the United Kingdom

and Colonies. But if there must be change, then they want to be replaced by

something which clearly reteins the British link. They do not want an independent status, and indeed they feel in some cases the it Could cause more trouble then it is worth. They are not after all independent entities and they do not necessarily seek to have the Eppurtenances of independence at this glase.
