views of the Unofficial Members of the Executive

and Legislative Councils on the British Nationality

Mr Whitelaw and I found our separate meetings

with Mr Cheung and you at the beginning of February most

useful. Since then, we have had the benefit of Sir

Murray MacLehose's visit and, as he will have explained to you and your colleagues by now, I believe that real progress will be possible in terms of meeting Hong Kong's requirements by way of amendments to the Bill.

I look forward to meeting you and your colleagues

on 31 March.
