Annex B

Proposed amendment to the British Nationality Bill 1981 to give British (Dependent Territories) citizens

the right to register as British citizens after 5 years' residence in the United Kingdom

Insert after clause 3 the following new clause

"Acquisition by registra- tion: British (Dependent Territories) citizens

3A. A British (Dependent Territories)

citizen shall be entitled, on an application

for his registration as a British citizen, to be

so registered if the Secretary of State is

satisfied that he

(a) was settled in the United Kingdom

at the date of the application; and

(b) had on the date of the application

been ordinarily resident in the

United Kingdom for the last five

years or more.'
