HONG KONG: PETITION FROM SENIOR LOCALLY-ENGAGED ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

1.

193

We have sent a telegram to the Governor with an interim statement for him to use at a meeting with the Administrative Officers.

2.

Sze (2) +

This subject is, of course, very much tied up with the general question of nationality which we shall be considering with the Home Office. But we must bear in mind that a separate reply must be sent.

3.

One point which will need decision by about mid-March is whether the Governor should meet a deputation from the Administrative Officers. The Governor, in his letter to Mr Donald of 30 December 1980, thought this would not be a good idea. But that was before the petition. Depending on how talks on Nationality have gone, a meeting with the AOS, if only to impress on them the importance of not upsetting confidence, might be useful. I suggest you consider a telegram from Mr Donald to the Governor on about 9 March.
