Proposed amendments to have Crown service (past and present) under the Hong Kong Government rendered by Unofficials and officials accepted as

an alternative to the residence requirement for the purpose of naturalisation as British Citizens

First amendment

Delete the words "under the government of the United Kingdom"

from paragraph 1(3) of Schedule 1 to the Bill, so that the amended

paragraph 1(3) would read:

"(3) The alternative requirement referred to in sub-paragraph

(1)(a) of this paragraph is that on the date of the application he is

serving outside the United Kingdom in Crown service".

Second amendment

Delete the words "under the government of the United Kingdom"

from paragraph 1(1)(d)(ii) of Schedule 1 to the Bill, so that the

amended paragraph 1(1)(d)(ii) would read:

"(ii) he intends, in the event of such a certificate being granted

to him, to enter into, or continue in, Crown service, or service

under an international organisation of which the United Kingdom or

Her Majesty's government therein is a member, or service in

the employment of a society, company or body of persons established

in the United Kingdom".

Third amendment

Add the following sub-paragraph at the end of paragraph 2
