Annex A) which described the new student travel scheme to come into effect on 1st September 1981. On 22nd July, the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council voted the funds necessary for the introduction of the new scheme. The purpose of this memorandum is to seek Members' agreement to amendments to existing schedules of fares to introduce the new scheme.

Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited (KMB)

China Motor Bus Company, Limited (CMB)

New Lantao Bus Company (1973) Limited (NLB)

The new scheme will provide concessionary fares at the rate of one half of the adult fare for any journey rounded up to the nearest 10 cents above on all routes provided by KMB, CMB and NLB save the following:

(a)

KMB: cross-harbour routes, express coach services, special services (operated on race days and festival days) and designated recreational routes; and

(b)

CMB: cross-harbour routes, special bus services,

express coach services, express routes and recreational routes, and on Sundays and Public Holidays routes 6, 9, 61, 62 and 73.

Under section 13(1) of the Public Omnibus Services Ordinance (Chapter 230) the Governor in Council may determine fares charged by franchised bus B, C, D companies, and included at Annexes B, C and D are draft notices proposed under section 13(1) of the Ordinance which would bring the new scheme into effect on KMB, CMB and NLB services respectively.

Under section 51(1) of the Tramway Ordinance (Chapter 107), the Governor in Council may consent to an alteration in fares proposed by the Hong Kong Tramways Limited, and under section 51(2) of the Ordinance the Governor in Council may order that the alteration come into force within
