Appendix Q

Subjects of the School Curriculum

The core curriculum in Hong Kong primary schools consists of

the nine subjects listed in the following table, which shows the

minimum number of teaching periods per week in each subject or group

of subjects recommended by the Education Department. The total number

of teaching periods available is 38 per week in bisessional schools

and 40 per week in whole-day schools. Teaching periods vary in

duration from 30 minutes to 40 minutes each; most schools have adopted

a 35-minute period.
