Public reaction on the release of the approved figures is expected

to be favourable.

Publicity

No publicity is envisaged until the necessary funds have been approved by Finance Committee. Suitable publicity will then be arranged emphasising the Government's efforts to improve Hong Kong's tertiary education.

note the UPGC grant recommendations at Annex A in respect of recurrent subventions and at Annex B in respect of capital works; and

advise whether these recommendations should be submitted to the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council.

(The Secretary for Social Services (Mr E. P. HO) and the Secretary of the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee (Mr W. M. BRADLEY) will attend before the Council for the discussion of this item).
