rental (undiscounted) for an equivalent number of flats assuming
The Committee an average monthly rental of only $8,000 per flat. is aware of the current backlog of building projects and the likely level of capital expenditure for new projects up to 1986-87, but considers that senior staff housing projects should start as soon as possible since it must be cheaper in the long run for institutions to build their own quarters than to rent.
University of Hong Kong
24.
The current staff housing programme of 168 flats on the Victoria Road site will be completed by 1983-84. The present site at Victoria Road can accommodate a further 120 flats, and the Committee understands that the Public Works Department are sympathe- tic to a proposal to allow another 30 flats thus completing the development of 150 flats. The Committee fully endorses this approach, which would avoid further heavy expenditure on area and site development.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong
25.
The Committee supports CUHK's proposals for the Senior A Staff Quarters Phase VIII (80 flats) and Phase IX (20 flats). shortfall of 90 flats has been identified at 3% growth, and the construction of a total 100 flats would not lead to over-provision now that the University are to expand at 4%.
Polytechnic
26.
The Polytechnic have asked for 54 flats to be developed on the existing Shatin site, and for a further 60 flats for which a site has yet to be found. The Committee has noted these requirements, and will review them in the September 1981 meeting.
Others
27.
There are minor items involving safety and lease requirements which in the Committee's view should be carried out
