This is again to thank you and Brian Overy and all the members of your validating advisory teams for the hard work you put into the recent assessment exercise in respect of Baptist College and Lingaan College. The efficient and professional approach you displayed was very much appreciated and I look forward to your written report in February.

There is one other matter which I wish to raise : your seating on 16th January with Ken Topley in his capacity as Chairman of the Committee to Review Post-Secondary and Technical Education. The Committee la very interested in the capacity for development of the two Colleges and has asked me if the following questions can be dealt with explicitly in your report

(1) To what role and what standards night the Colleges aspire in say the next five to ten years? For example, how far should each college aim at

(a) degree programmes;

(b) sub-degree programmes, and if so, of what kind?

(11) How far is the present work of each College up to

degree standard (using the CHAA's criteria for degree programmes in UK institutions)?

(iii) How do standards at each College compare with

standards on Higher Diploma courses at the Polytechnic? (Having regard to paragraphs 6.19 and 6.20 of the 1978 White Paper).

(iv) that are the principal strengths and weaknesses of

each College?

(v) Can the principal weaknesses be remedied by

(a) better funding;

(b) other measures;

and how productive would such sction be?
