Departmental workshop facilities are limited but there is excellent and imaginative back-up at Polytechnic level. No laboratory space is reserved for research activity, or projects. Students are not able to leave experimental set-ups. There is access to a PDP computer via time-sharing terminal. Staff accommodation is open plan for junior staff.

The library requires substantial investment in number and variety of texts; journals are inadequate to meet the aims of the programme (students and staff need effective access to well equipped libraries and full participation in loan services).
