in the HND/HD(TEC) in Chemistry and is more nearly equated to that in an HND/HD(TEC) in Applied Chemistry.
The aims and objectives of the Programme are clearly directly related to the immediate needs of the Hong Kong situation.
HKBC Factual
The standard is such that students qualifying on the previous course (being phased out by the 2+2+1 scheme) are accepted for postgraduate studies elsewhere, particularly in the United States. An increasing number of students are finding employment in the Hong Kong chemical industry.
HKBC Comment
There is no ready comparison in standard to be achieved by the Senior Diploma in relation to the Polytechnic course since the character and purpose is so different. The most appropriate comparison which could be made is with the UK DipHE. Although the latter might be of variable character, the objectives are often not dissimilar to that of the Baptist College course, and the standards aimed for are probably quite close. Similarly, the intended level of the Honours Diploma might be close to that of a UK non-honours Degree.

Structure and Curriculum
HKP Factual
The programme is purpose-designed to meet specified vocational aims although constrained to comply with an overall Polytechnic system.
HKBC Factual
The programmes are a reflection not only of the College as an institution but also of the experience of the staff. As a consequence, the programmes are essentially a restatement of the USA/HKU approach, in forms of structure (subject to institutional constraints in that the framework adopted by Academic Board is rigid), balance, sequencing and approach.
