Dear Mr caft
VIETNAMESE REFUGEES IN HONG KONG
I am sorry that I have not been able to write to you sooner regarding the completion of the 10,000 quota. The Joint Committee for Refugees from Vietnam has been in touch with the Hong Kong Immigration Department and I understand that they have now re- conciled the various figures and are agreed that 73 spaces remain on the quota.
I should therefore be grateful if you could ask Hong Kong to select refugees to complete this programme. Once this has been done, the Immigration Department should revert to referring applications for visas to join relatives in the United Kingdom to this department.
Mr Angel has now left the Immigration and Nationality Department but he was, I know, extremely appreciative of the work of the Hong Kong Immigration Department and particularly of the Vietnamese Refugee Division. It would therefore not be right to complete this phase of the programme without expressing gratitude to all in Hong Kong for their invaluable assistance.
Yours mily
