It would naturally be important for such a plan to be acceptable to the local education authority. Mr Nicholson agreed to consider the points made about education in consultation with the appropriate departments.
18 Another option for reducing running costs would be to seek a renegotiation of the DHSS reception centre rates, although it was appreciated that this had only recently been done. Mr Nicholson agreed to pursue the matter of reception centre rates with DHSS.

INTER-AGENCY CO-OPERATION
19 Mrs Morley-Fletcher introduced a paper which stressed the importance of inter-agency co-operation and exchange of information about projects which they had established for training refugees in resettlement. Miss Pearce saw a need for a facility where young people could get together, share experiences and develop an interest in their cultural background.
20
Mr Barber suggested that a weekend should be set aside to discuss these ideas and any other related topics, for example grant aid for retraining schemes. The Ockenden centre at Combe Head was offered as a venue and gratefully accepted, and the date 24/25 October was selected.
21 It was agreed that detailed arrangements for the weekend conference would be discussed at the next meeting when voluntary agencies would provide short notes on any projects which they were running or had planned but which were not covered by the leaflets being prepared for the Guildhall Exhibition.
