Refugees from Vietnam
FAMILY REUNIONS
30th June, 1981 .
Jakeed an JCRV.
for 1.7.8
At a meeting between Ockenden Venture, Save the Children Fund and BCAR held
at BCAR Headquarters' offices on 15th June 1981, IT WAS AGREED:
1.
Family reunions are an important part of the medium term support programme as the success of settlement depends much on family members being re-united to support each other in starting a new life together and without the anxiety for the safety and well-being of close relatives left behind in
Vietnam or dispersed in camps in South East Asia.
1
2.
All three Agencies will endeavour to assist refugees in the submission of applications for family reunions eligible under the present criteria.
3.
All three Agencies will assist with the settlement of family reunion cases
and help them to be resettled with, or as near to their relatives as possible.
4.
པ་
5.
Only those family reunion cases for whom accommodation is not available immediately on arrival need be received in a reception centre.
Health screening can be provided through the NHS system in resettlement areas and for this purpose it is not absolutely necessary to pass all family reunions through reception centres.
6.
Government support for family reunion cases is needed as part of the medium term support programme, in particular by assisting, if necessary with extra funding, in the provision of English language teaching in resettlement or
reception centres as required.
