1. I raised the question of Vietnamese refugees, but not in any

great detail. Britain will continue to accept them up to the

agreed quota of 10,000 and this should permit a steady off-take

to continue over the next few months. I shall consider with HMG

what further steps might be necessary thereafter.

2. [If raised]: There was no discussion of a specific new quota

for Vietnamese refugees, but as we are still some way from filling

the present British quota, this is not surprising.

3. [If raised]: At the end of February, 1,220 places from the

10,000 quota were still to be filled.
