REPLACEMENT AIRPORT FOR KAI TAK
1. A Mr Varney of the Civil Aviation Authority here recently told Hugh Davies that he had attended a meeting in Canton a few weeks ago to consider with the Guangdong Aviation Authorities some of the practical problems affecting Chinese airspace which would arise from the establishment of a new airport. He understood that the substance of the meeting had been conveyed to the Political Adviser, by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation representative at the meeting.

Hugh Davies gathered from Varney that the Chinese had answered been rather non-committal and nothing much came out of the Félio meeting. However, we should be grateful for any further details which you can give us about it.
