The meeting was arranged at the request of the Minister to enable

the members of his delegation concerned with building to talk about

the Hang Lung-led consortium's agreements with the Mass Transit

Railway Corporation (MTRC) for the development of 7 property sites

along the new Island Line, 6 of them above new station concourses.

Mr Chen identified Hang Lung's involvement in the modified

initial system of the MTR as the residential and commercial

Telford Gardens complex at Kowloon Bay and the Argyle Centre

office block at Nathan Road above Argyle Station. The agreements

newly negotiated with the MTRC were for property development along

the Island Line. These would be for commercial, not residential,

purposes, and would provide some 4 million square feet of offices

and shops. The first site to be developed, near Cotton Tree Drive

but not associated with a station, was on only 15,000 square feet.

Piling was due to begin immediately and the first stage, to the

12th/.
