GUANGDONG NUCLEAR POWER STATION PROJECT
At the meeting chaired by Mr Manzie which you attended here on Tuesday 28 July I spoke to a report prepared following the return of Chen Gang and his talks with Nai Ling of CLP. I said I would circulate copies of this but I must emphasise the confidential nature of the document. I would not want it to get back to CLP that I had widely distributed notes on the meeting.
As I mentioned I consider that the points raised are evidence of the seriousness with which the Chinese view the project as well as of the closeness of their relation- ship with CLP. We in Whitehall will now consider advice to Mr Stones on the couple of points which concern us prior to his proposed meeting with Chen Gang in the midâle of August. I am copying this to those at our meeting, namely Geoffrey Stevens at Department of Energy, Richard Ranson, CGD, Hugh Davies, Alan Fryer and Martin Roberts at FCO as well as to Chris Benjamin.
Yours. De merely. Dukane
