Regarding the price to be charged to CLP for power supplied, I made it clear that CLP could pay no more than the price at which they could generate it themselves.

He smiled and said he knew this. He had read the minutes
of the meetings we had had with the KEC.

Mr. Lu said that in the end the final decision would
rest on the PRC, the Hong Kong Government, the U.K.
Government and the Kadoories.

I mentioned our long family connection with China and
our interest in encouraging friendship between China,
Hong Kong and the U.K. We hoped this would long
continue and that our grandchildren would continue in
this tradition.

I said that CLP was a public Company operating under a Scheme of Control administered by the Hong Kong
Government and that until we knew the PRC's views and
until matters had been discussed at an official level,
there was very little more I could do.

I referred to the importance of the friendly relationship existing between Chen Gang, Deputy General Manager, KEC, and Mr. W. F. Stones, Deputy General Manager, CLP, which was particularly helpful in creating a good working
atmosphere and understanding.
31.
I mentioned the need for discretion but said that since
people were worried about the security and environmental
aspects, I had given an interview to the press which
would appear in Sunday's SCMP.
