Education for Expatriates' Children There is a small group of English schools which offers education similar to that available in Britain to English-speaking children of all races. Other schools have been established by the French, Portuguese, Japanese and Indonesian communities for their chil- dren. There is also a school on the American pattern- the Hong Kong International School-sponsored by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod; and a German- Swiss International School with a section based on the German pattern, which is open to children of all nationalities.
The standard of education is high. In the schools geared to the British system, children are generally prepared for the General Certificate of Education examinations conducted by the University of London. Facilities also exist for taking examinations based on standard American curricula. Consequently, Hong Kong students can qualify for admission into nearly all universities abroad, including those of the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Australia.
