Trade and Industrial Organisations There is a number of statutory and non-government organisations in Hong Kong concerned with com- mercial and industrial matters. The more important of these and their main functions are:
HONG KONG TRADE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
Promotes, assists and develops Hong Kong's trade with overseas countries through trade missions and fairs, with the emphasis on Hong Kong's exports. Makes recommendations and liaises with Government departments in matters relating to trade promotion and industrial investment in Hong Kong.
Publishes trade periodicals to introduce Hong Kong's products, and provides trade and economic informa- tion to overseas businessmen seeking trade with Hong Kong.
HONG KONG PRODUCTIVITY CENTRE
Provides technology services, industrial consultancy, and computer services to industry.
Provides comprehensive technical back-up services to overseas investors including feasibility studies, project management and personnel recruitment.
Conducts in-class and in-company training pro- grammes in technology, management techniques and electronic data-processing.
Offers technical information and technology transfer services, and undertakes development projects.
FEDERATION OF HONG KONG INDUSTRIES
Issues certificates of origin.
Provides industrial information to investors, industry and trade.
Provides testing, quality control and certification facilities.
Provides assistance in industrial design, packaging, product development and technology transfer. Maintains a centralised Standards Library and Copy- right Depository.
Conducts economic research and studies on problems relative to industry.
HONG KONG GENERAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Issues certificates of origin.
Arbitrates in commercial disputes.
Promotes trade with a variety of services including attendance at trade fairs and liaison with overseas organisations.
Promotes industry in liaison with local organisations. Promotes industrial investment by external promotion and in conjunction with the Trade Industry and Customs Department.
Assists companies interested in developing their trade and industrial contacts with the People's Republic of China.
THE AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN
HONG KONG
Promotes trade between Hong Kong and the USA. Promotes industrial investment between Hong Kong and the USA.
