Section 7
Power, Water & Fuel
Types of energy most commonly used by industry are electricity, towngas and fuel oils, all of which are readily available. The provision of water is a Government responsibility, and ample supplies are generally available.
Electricity
All electricity is generated by firing imported fuel oils. Hong Kong Island and the neighbouring islands of Ap Lei Chau and Lamma are supplied with electricity by the Hong Kong Electric Co. Ltd.; the remainder of the territory, except for some small outlying islands, receives its supply from the China Light and Power Co. Ltd. The two companies have a generating capacity of 3,270 megawatts, and their recent combined annual output was over 11,000 million kilowatt-hours. Output will continue to increase annually to meet the rising demands of Hong Kong's expanding economy.
