Commercial Buildings

Since factories may be situated some distance away from the business centres, some companies prefer to maintain an office in the major commercial districts of Kowloon or Hong Kong Island. There is an ample supply of office premises in these districts. Purchase of office space is rare-premises usually being leased on a monthly rental.

The average rent for office accommodation in central business districts in Hong Kong and Kow- loon is about HK$100 (US$20) per square metre per month. This includes main services and access areas but excludes air-conditioning. Rents for offices slightly out of the central districts are, however, lower and many companies are now locating their offices in these areas.
