OBJECTIVES
1) To encourage in every way possible the Hong Kong industry
to negotiate a voluntary restraint agreement for exports of
TVS to the UK with the UK industry, giving strong support to
the RIC/BREMA approaches. It is essential that development
of Hong Kong manufacture of more consumer electronic goods
including monochrome TV and colour TV should not result in
disruptive imports into the UK.

To indicate the importance that HMG attaches to ensuring
that consignments of consumer goods exported from Hong Kong
to the UK are of geniune Hong Kong manufacture and not merely
re-packed or re-shipped from other Eastern countries.
POINTS TO MAKE
HMG is committed to ensuring the survival of the UK consumer
electronics goods manufacturing sector. VRAS are seen as the
best way of achieving this. HMG is giving strong support to
the industry in all its negotiations with Far Eastern producers
but the whole concept depends upon new producers entering into
such VKAS and that there should be no short circuiting of agreed
