ELECTRICITY RATES
THE HONG KONG ELECTRIC CO. LTD.
For domestic, commercial and small industrial consumers the Company has three separate block tariffs with reducing rates down to and including 5,000 units consumption per month (1 unit 1 kilowatt-hour). In each tariff an initial charge of HK$5 (US$1) is made for consumption of up to 10 units to cover the basic costs of service.

Where more than 5,000 units are consumed in any one month, the reducing block rate does not apply and each unit of consumption is charged at a flat rate of 37.7 HK cents (7.5 US cents), 39.3 HK cents (7.9 US cents) or 38.0 HK cents (7.6 US cents) a unit for domestic, commercial and small industrial consumers respectively.
These tariff rates are subject to a fuel clause which effects an increase or decrease of 0.01 HK cents a unit for every complete multiple of 37 cents of fuel oil costs above or below HK$700.00 (US$140.00) per ton. Some examples are shown below.
