V VISIT OF MINISTRY OF LIGHT INDUSTRY DELEGATION IN NOVEMBER 1980
During the final round-up session Vice Minister Wang Wenzhe said only that the Departments concerned in China would follow-up discussions "through the proper channels". On the basis of contacts made during the visit the Ministry would be organising local factories to begin discussions with UK firms including those not visited during the programme. Mr Manzie offered the services of the Departments of Industry and Trade to follow up any points the Chinese wished to pursue.
TI-Raleigh:
Discussions will continue on (1) joint bicycle production incorporating Raleigh help in upgrading Chinese production techniques (2) cooperation in gear manufacture with Sturmey Archer.
Croda Food Ingredients: Consideration will be given to Croda's proposals concerning gelatine production.
Royal Doulton Tableware: The delegation had been impressed with the technology they had seen on what was essentially a courtesy visit.
British Ceramic Plant and Machinery Manufacturers Association: The Chinese had fulfilled their objective in learning about the scope and responsibilities of the Association. They will pursue through the Association questions relating to renovating existing ceramics kilns and furnaces.
Rockware Glass: Rockware told the Chinese they would be happy to follow up this visit with a trip to China. Discussions had centred on compensation trade, under which Rockware would provide technology and equipment and China would pay through sales of the finished products (to be marketed by Rockware).
Turner Machinery Ltd: The company explained that they could provide a turnkey package for a tannery factory in China; Turners had already been approached by a leather corporation in Canton to whom they had offered a complete package.
Shelley Furnaces Ltd: The Chinese had been impressed with the company's equipment but surprised at the cost.
Metal Box Ltd: The Chinese had said that MB's prices for canning technology were not competitive. MB stressed that they were anxious to receive an answer about the can production line in Fujian.
