Luxingshe (International) Hong Kong

15.

Luxingshe (International) Hong Kong, a local branch of China International Travel Service, opened on 21 Septaber to promote visits to China by tourists from all over the world. The branch office will clearly be working in clo9- parallel with the existing branch of China Travel Service. The theoretical distinction between the two travel agencies is simply that one operates domestically and the other internationally. However, in the context of Hong Kong such a distinction may well prove confusing both for tourists and the agencies themselves.

Chinese trade protection

16.

According to press reports on 25 September the Chinese customs authorities have been ordered to substantially increase the dutiable estimated cost and tax on electrical goods imported from Hong Kong in order to protect the production and sale of locally-made items. Thus, whereas the previous estimated cost of a 17 inch colour television set was RMB 600 (HK$1,800 approximately) and the tax RMB 300 (HK$900) in future these will be RMB 1,200 (HK$3,600) and RMB 600 (HK$1,800) respectively. Similar goods in danger of flooding the Chinese market are radios, radio-cassettes and electronic calculators.
